Teddy Tahu Rhodes has established an international career on the opera stage and the concert platform. His wide-ranging repertoire is notable for several world and Australian premiere performances including Bendrix (The End of the Affair), Joe (Dead Man Walking), The Pilot (The Little Prince), Nigel Butterley's Spell of Creation and Barry Conyngham's Fix. He is a frequent guest with major opera companies in the USA, Europe and the UK, as well as Opera Australia.
Recent and forthcoming opera engagements include Al Kasim (L'Upupa) in Hamburg; Escamillo (Carmen) in Paris, Hamburg, Munich, Bilbao and for Scottish Opera; Stanley (A Streetcar Named Desire) in Vienna and for Opera Australia; The Count (The Marriage of Figaro) in Cincinnati; Joe (Dead Man Walking) for State Opera of South Australia and in Sydney for McManus/Alexander Productions; Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) in Leipzig and for Opera Australia; and the title roles in Don Giovanni (Opera Australia) and Billy Budd (Santa Fe and Opera Australia). Following his critically acclaimed debut at the Metropolitan Opera, he returns in the 2009/2010 season to perform the role of Escamillo.
Concert engagements include recitals at the Utzon Room (Sydney Opera House) and in Washington; two national tours with the Australian Chamber Orchestra; Faure's Requiem and Brahms' A German Requiem for the London Philharmonic Orchestra; appearances at the Bundaleer and Huntington Festivals, BBC Proms and Opera in the Vineyards; performances with the West Australian and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, The Queensland Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra; and a national tour with David Hobson for Andrew McKinnon and Associates. He makes his debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in 2009.
Teddy Tahu Rhodes' discography includes Musical Renegades and Handel's Messiah (both also on DVD), Faur�'s Requiem and solo discs including Mozart Arias, The Voice and Vagabond, all for ABC Classics. Other releases include The Little Prince (BBC/Sony International) and the DVD Hayley Westenra Live.
His awards include an ARIA Award (Best Classical Record for The Voice), two Helpmann Awards (Best Male Operatic Performer), a MO Award (Operatic Performer of the Year), the 2006 Limelight Award, and a Green Room Award for his performance as Don Giovanni for Opera Australia.
