Nick Green

Nick Green's international rowing career got off to a flying start in late 1989 when he teamed up with experienced rowers James Tomkins, Mike McKay, and later Andrew Cooper to race in the Coxless Fours.

Within a year they had won the World Championship in Tasmania and began to build their "oarsome" reputation.

The crew won successive World Championships in 1990 and 1991 and went into the Barcelona Olympics as hot favourites. The crew did not disappoint and took their first Olympic gold in a thrilling race.

Following Barcelona Andrew Cooper retired from the Oarsome Foursome and Drew Ginn took his place in the boat.

Despite taking a break from competitive rowing for two years the new Oarsome Foursome successfully defended their Olympic title in Atlanta.

In 1998 the Oarsome Foursome returned to international competition and rowed as a coxed four, winning gold at the World Championships in Cologne, heralding the champion crew's return. At the same regatta Nick teamed up with fellow crew member James Tomkins to win gold in the coxed pairs.

Nick's preparation for the 1999 season was hampered by a serious back injury, and unfortunately, in September 1999 Nick announced his retirement from the international scene, ending the career of one of Australia's greatest rowers.

At the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Nick international career was rewarded by being invited to carrying the International Olympic Flag at the Opening Ceremony, he also worked with Woolmark (Official Uniform Supplier) and Channel 7 as analytical and expert commentator for rowing.

Nick still maintains a heavy involvement in the Olympic movement, he was appointed as the Athlete Services Director of the 2002 Australian Winter Olympic team, he also hold positions on the Athletes' Commission for the Australian Olympic Committee, Executive Board Member – Victorian Olympic Council and Olympians Club of Victoria.

Away from the Olympics, Nick work interests are centred on health promotion, with the formation of a new company called Bluearth Institute.

He is a highly sought–after speaker covering topics such as attitude change, winning attitudes, team work, gaol setting, communication, ownership, responsibility, measurement and performance.
