Shane was an SANFL and AFL footballer with Sturt and Essendon that as a 19 year old founded EFM, Executive Fitness Management in 1991.
Over the course of 10 years, he grew EFM into the largest corporate fitness business in Australia with more than 4,500 clients and 30+ franchise sites. In 1994, Shane was awarded the Australia Day business award for contribution to the Industry. Shane successfully sold the company in 2000.
In 2000, Shane was appointed CEO of Wendy's Ice Cream. In 6 years, he grew that business from $75m turnover to +$125m. This resulted in the successful sale of Wendy's in 2006 to private equity. Shane was awarded the Young Leader of the Year award in 2005 for South Australia.
In 2006, he was awarded the National KPMG Advise bank business award for work completed in the business arts industry for business planning in the sector
In early 2010, Shane was appointed COO of 7-Eleven, a $3.5bn convenience store chain with more than 700 stores. Shane was integral in the acquisition of Mobil retail, one of the largest private company purchases in Australia in the past decade. (+$550m)
At 7-Eleven, he introduced the 'Retail Activation' program, which was aimed at driving a selling culture into a business with very low levels of service. Many stores in this program, experienced a 30-40% growth in sales as a result of this program. In his franchising career, Shane has interacted with more than 5,000 franchisees. Shane has a passion for people and sales.
In 2013, Shane won an Australian landmark court victory against Google, with the identity disclosed under a court order of an internet troll, who was a disgruntled ex franchisee. This demonstrates his ability to fight for what he believes. It was a landmark case now used in most legal courses.
In December 2014, Shane was headhunted to become CEO of Cheap as Chips, a successful Discount variety store that operates more than 35 stores in SA, VIC and NSW with more than 3000 staff and a turnover of $150m. In 2016, Shane took a major stake in the business as part of a MBO buy out in 2016.
Shane and his wife Tori, were also active with the Yalari Indigenous program. They had up to 8 indigenous boys live with their family, 3 of which went on to play AFL, one of which is now his son in law - a very talented Rapper!
Shane has completed 11 marathons, (including 4 New York marathons, London, Paris, Chicago, Boston and the Great Wall of China).
Shane has also completed the Kokoda track and was a previous director of Brink Productions, inaugural Chairman of the Julian Burton Burns trust and a current Business Advisory for Salvation Army SA/NT
Shane now sits on a variety of boards, and has interests in a number of businesses, ranging from retail, solar, finance and indigenous businesses.
