Alan Kohler

Alan Kohler has been a financial journalist for 38 years. He began as a cadet reporter in The Australian newspaper's Melbourne bureau in 1970, covering the stock market and property, then worked in Darwin for the Northern Territory News, and in Perth, covering the mining industry for "The National Miner"?.

After having traveled to the UK and worked on provincial papers in the South of England for a time, he returned to write the Chanticleer column on the back page of the "Australian Financial Review"?, which he did for four years. Appointed deputy editor, then editor of the Financial Review in 1983, he returned to the Chanticleer column in 1988.

In 1992 Alan Kohler was appointed Editor of The Age newspaper in Melbourne, which he did for three years, during the period when Telegraph Newspapers of the UK controlled John Fairfax.

Since 1995 he has combined print with television, working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation first as a business and economic reporter on the 7.30 Report and then as a finance presenter on the nightly News and presenter of Inside Business. Up to July 2007 he also wrote columns for John Fairfax publications, The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Australian Financial Review, as well as The West Australian. He also has published a book called; Making Money Alan Kohler's guide for the independent investor.

Alan is now Publisher of Eureka Report an independent publication for investors, plus Business Spectator, a free 24 hour a day business news and commentary website.

He is also chairman of Melbourne University Publishing.
