Steve Cannane is a Walkley award winning journalist and host of The Drum on ABC News 24.
Steve has worked as a reporter on ABC TV's Lateline program, has been a regular fill in host on Radio National's Breakfast and was the founding presenter of Hack - Triple J's current affairs show.
In 2006 Steve won the prestigious Walkley Award for Broadcast Interviewing. He was commended in the same category in 2005. In 2009 he was a finalist in the TV Current Affairs category for his work on the ABC TV show The Hack Half Hour.
In 2009 Steve hosted the award winning ABC TV series Whatever! The Science of Teenagers. Focusing on the science behind the teenage brain, Whatever! won the international award for best TV series in the 2010 SCINEMA Festival of Science Film Competition.
In 2009 Steve released his critically acclaimed book First Tests: Great Australian Cricketers and the Backyards That Made Them. It was chosen in 2010 as one of the 50 Books You Can't Put Down as part of the Australian Government's Get Reading! initiative.
Steve has visited the U.S. as the Australian representative on the US Department of State's Edward R Murrow Program, where emerging leaders in the field of journalism from around the world are invited to examine journalistic practices in the United States.
Steve has also won the Excellence in Drug and Alcohol Media Reporting Award at the National Drug and Alcohol Awards.
Steve has written for The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and The Bulletin and is an accomplished keynote speaker, MC and facilitator.
