Adam Ramanauskas has made a name for himself by playing in one of football's greatest sides.

Drafted from the Dandening Stingrays with pick 12 of the 1998 National Draft, Ramanauskas' debut season with Essendon was very much a developmental year.

In 2000 'Rama' showed his class and almost boundless potential by becoming a regular fixture in a team many argue was the greatest in league history. His season was outstanding with recognition coming via second place in the Rising Star.

Ramanauskas has since risen to become a vital cog in the Bombers midfield, playing a major part in the club's 2001 and 2002 finals campaigns.

His 2003 season was interrupted by treatment for low-grade cancer. When he did appear, his form was exceptional.

Ramanauskas played every game in 2004 in a tremendous effort and reached the 100 game milestone.

Season 2005 was cut short due to a knee injury. A reoccurrence of the cancerous growth in his shoulder on the eve of the 2006 season sidelined Ramanauskas as he sought treatment.

Ramanauskas shared his experiences as keynote speaker at the 2006 NAB AFL Rising Star. His speech touched all those in attendance as he talked frankly about his journey.

In another stirring chapter to his story, Ramanauskas returned to the field in Round 14 2007, playing on in 2008.

Moving into a new phase of his life in 2009 Ramanauskas has taken on a role as a player manager.
