Huon Hooke is a leading independent wine writer, based in Sydney, who makes his living entirely from writing, judging and educating about wine. A journalist first and wine professional second, he has tertiary qualifications in both fields and has been writing on wine for 32 years. He pens a weekly column for the Sydney Morning Herald 'Good Food' section and contributes to Gourmet Traveller Wine, Decanter, The World of Fine Wine and various other publications. In 2012 he launched the web and phone-based app, huonhooke.com.

He has won 10 awards for wine writing since 1984. In 2008 he was named Australia's Wine Communicator of the Year. He has published 17 books on wine including a biography of Penfolds Grange creator Max Schubert. He co-authored the annual Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide for 14 years until retiring from it in 2007. He's been a show judge for 28 years and this year will chair the Boutique Wine Awards, Tasmanian Regional Wine Show, Australian Highlands Wine Show and represent Australia in the Six Nations Wine Challenge.

Huon is available to conduct tastings, workshops and seminars, wine-themed corporate events and after-dinner speaking engagements. He has an extensive history of such work, and recent gigs include such diverse clients as Ernst & Young, Wine Australia, Mastercard International, Vintage Cellars Ultimo, the Australian Wine Research Institute and Opera Australia.
