Alexandra Smart is the Co-founder and Managing Director of GINGER & SMART.

Founded in 2002, the inspiration to establish the business came from the desire to combine family talent to build a strong fashion-lifestyle brand. With Alexandra’s creative business background as an editor and publisher for high-quality lifestyle magazines, combined with her sister Genevieve’s years spent at the design helm of some of Australia’s most successful fashion businesses, their united industry knowledge covered every possibility for a successful and exciting fashion venture.

The brand is now sold in more than 50 stores in Australia and the UK, has 8 stand-alone boutiques, and a thriving online business. GINGER & SMART combines captivating design with the finest quality materials and first-rate manufacturers. Accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia, the brand product mix includes Ready to Wear, a leather accessories line, a spa collection and a sister collection called AKIN by GINGER & SMART.

Prior to launching GINGER & SMART, Alexandra was a publishing executive in the magazine and online industries. Her roles included General Manager of online content publishing company, BecomeMedia; and Publisher of Youth and New Projects at Pacific Magazines. Prior to this Alexandra spent six years at Australia’s largest magazine company, Bauer Media (formally Australian Consolidated Press). She launched, as Publisher, two new business units, ACP Creative Books and ACP Customer Magazines, and launched Australian Table magazine, a partnership with Coles, which went on to win Launch Magazine of the Year in 2000 at the Magazine Publishers Awards.

Alexandra was also the launch Editor of OYSTER magazine, the Australian-based but globally focused youth fashion magazine.

Alexandra sits on the Contemporary Collectors Benefactors Committee (CCB) at the AGNSW, and the sunSCHine committee which raises funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital. She is also a mentor with the AGSM/UNSW Alumni Leader Mentor program.

Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) and an MBA from the AGSM.
