Lucy Smith is a broadcaster, MC, content maker and music journalist based in Sydney, Australia.
Lucy's passion for music began while growing up in the Illawarra. She studied classical flute and drama, but after one-too-many 'this one time at band camp' jokes decided to combine her music knowledge with her love of speaking.
Lucy's radio career started in Wollongong, presenting a weekly community radio slot at 106.9 VOX FM while completing a Bachelor of Journalism with Distinction at the University of Wollongong. Throughout her studies, she interned at FBi Radio as a digital contributor before joining their Allnighters on-air roster in 2015.
In 2016, Lucy relocated to Sydney and commenced her role as the host of FBi Radio's flagship Breakfast program Up For It. For two years she presented the best in local music, arts and culture to the biggest community radio audience in Sydney.
Lucy joined the ranks at triple j in 2018, presenting casually on The Mid-Dawn, Good Nights, Lunch, Mornings, Weekends, Summer Breakfast and Breakfast. In 2020 she began her full-time role as the host of Mornings on triple j, presenting weekdays from 9am until 12pm.
Alongside paneling and self-producing the daily program, Lucy has interviewed global talent like Tame Impala, Halsey, Tones & I, Jonathan Van Ness, Grace Tame, Courtney Act and Tan France. This role sees her co-hosting the hugely popular Science with Dr Karl podcast with Dr Karl Kruszelnicki - regularly holding the number one spot on the Apple and Spotify podcast charts for Australian science.
Lucy is a trusted voice in music media, with speaking appearances on ABC News Breakfast, The Today Show, Sunrise, The Project, Radio National, ABC Sydney, ABC Local and ABC News Radio. She has a passion for championing local talent, with a particular interest in current trends and pop culture. Lucy is also a key representative for triple j throughout their Hottest 100 campaign, one of the biggest musical democracies worldwide and a key event in the Australian music calendar.
When she's not in the studio, you can catch Lucy front left at a gig, dancing in front of the decks, or on-stage MCing. She's hosted exclusive Live Nation events for fans of U2 and Shania Twain, Barangaroo Council's 20 Degrees North Concert Series, and Yours & Owls' Covid-Safe edition of the festival with a 360-rotating stage.
Outside of the music world, Lucy has also MC'd and moderated events in science communication for Young Henry's green algae project, plus an afternoon with Grace Tame for the University of Wollongong's inaugural Respect Week.
