Dr Kate Grarock is an Ecologist, Hiker, YouTube Creator, passionate storyteller, Mum and Alone Australia participant.
A gifted storyteller, Kate uses her enthusiastic and approachable style, backed by extensive research, to take the listener on an inspiring journey to overcome challenges, achieve their goals and connect with nature.
Kate is a breakout star of SBS ground-breaking documentary series Alone Australia.
Whether speaking on live television, surviving in the wilderness, or as the keynote speaker to an audience of hundreds; Kate's energy and passion are infectious.
Kate grew up in the regional South Australian town of Naracoorte, taking an unlikely path to University, leaving school early and starting a five-year military career.
During her Royal Australian Navy career Kate was awarded recruit of the intake and the Australian Active Service medal for operations in East Timor.
Kate left the Navy to pursue her passion for the environment, graduating top of her class at the University of Wollongong with First class honours in a Bachelor of Environmental Science.
Kate went on to get her PhD from the Australian National University, focusing on management of introduced species and publishing six peer reviewed scientific papers.
As an ecologist, Kate has helped reverse extinction through restoring the environment and bringing back Australian species that were once locally extinct. Kate created highly successful education programs that shared science with policy makers, local communities and students.
In recognition of her success Kate was a 2018 Eureka Prize finalist for Science Communication and 2019 ACT Australian of the Year nominee.
Kate is currently an expedition leader at Bush Blitz, travelling to remote parts of Australia, looking for new species of plants and animals.
Living in Canberra with her partner Elsie and their young daughter, Kate has a passion for inspiring others to get outdoors through her hiking channel on YouTube.
Kate is available for media opportunities, brand partnerships, TV, radio presenting and keynote speaking.
