Wayne Bennett is officially "The Greatest Coach Ever", after coaching the Brisbane Broncos to another victorious win in the 2006 Rugby League Grand Final.
2008 season was Wayne Bennett's 21st and final Year of coaching at the Brisbane Broncos. 2009 will see him commence with St George. Wayne is the longest serving coach of any Rugby League Club in Australia. The Broncos have won 6 out of 6 Grand Finals under his reign and the 2006 win over the Melbourne Storm was for Wayne "The sweetest of them all".
As a player, Wayne Bennett represented Queensland, in seven matches against NSW from 1971 to 1973, toured New Zealand with the Australian World Cup team in 1971 and played in two provincial tour matches.
Wayne started his coaching career in 1976 in Queensland and moved to the Canberra Raiders in 1987 taking them to their first-ever grand final, and being named Coach of the Year. He joined the Brisbane Broncos as their inaugural coach the following season and has guided the club to five Premierships from as many grand final appearances between 1992 and 2000.
He has been successful in coaching Queensland State of Origin sides and been named the Super League Coach of the Year. In 1998 Wayne created history by becoming the first coach to steer his club, state and country to victory in their respective series. Wayne has been named the Queensland Coach of the Year several times and named Queensland Father of the Year. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the sport of Rugby League, and named one of five Queensland Greats in 2002, for his contribution to the community, and the state.
Now in his 20th year of coaching at the Brisbane Broncos, Wayne Bennett is recognised in Rugby League circles as one of the most influential and innovative of our modern day coaches. He is the longest serving coach of a single club in the history of the game in Australia, has one of the best winning percentages in Rugby League and ranks second in the number of Premierships won as a coach at the elite level.
Wayne has also achieved considerable success as an author, with his books "Don't Die with the Music in You", and "League's A Lot Like Life" The insight into Wayne Bennett and his family on the popular ABC series Australian Story was another outstanding success and it was the most requested story ever to be repeated.
Well known and well respected throughout Australia, Wayne is in demand as a speaker on leadership and teamwork. His presentation style is one that will not be forgotten.
