In 1988, Michael Hill Smith became the first Australian to pass the rigourous Master of Wine Examination. As Master of Wine, he has earned one of the highest qualifications in the world of wine.

In the same year, he was also awarded the Madame Bollinger Tasting Medal. Michael comes from a long line of wine makers, and is actively involved in many parts of the wine industry - as a wine consultant, wine commentator, wine judge, restaurateur, and producer.

Michael has been a guest on the ABC's This Sporting Life where Roy and HG Nelson roasted and grilled him on the topic of wine.

A trained Cordon Bleu chef, he has also written for Gourmet Traveller, Epicurean, Vogue Entertaining, The Bulletin, the Adelaide Advertiser and The Age in Australia; and the Wine and Wine and Spirit Magazines in the UK.

His charming personality and incredible knowledge of wine gives his sessions an educational component in the midst of lots of fun.
