Dr Michael Holt is an inspiration, whose story has touched the hearts of everyone who hears it. A man who in the face of adversity has shown strength, determination and courage to overcome obstacles some of us can only imagine.
His humility, raw honesty, together with outstanding communication skills and extraordinary intellect provides the audience with a presentation, which "makes a difference" and that is what Dr Michael Holt seeks to do.
Dr Holt is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, who had a brilliant career. At the young age of 33 he was Director of Orthopaedics at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He has worked internationally in some of the top hospitals, with some of the most renowned surgeons in the world.
He comes from a family of 10 who are all high achievers they include 3 medical specialists, 3 pilots, lawyer, vet and nurse.
At the peak of his career he was tragically struck by a car which nearly took his life. He suffered extensive injuries which included a broken spine, loss of sight in one eye, loss of hearing.
How could such an event not change your life?
This story, is not just a story about physical rehabilitation, but about someone who has fought very hard to get their old life back which included working again as an orthopaedic surgeon in private practice…which was very, very difficult.
Holt's story is unprecedented in the medical community. Part of his rehabilitation was back at the hospital where he was once Director, being supervised by people whom he had once taught. Being classified as impaired doctor has not been easy. He had to prove over and over again he was capable of working back as a surgeon.
Dr Holt gives us a very personal insight into how this accident has changed his life and how his passion for healing others helped him to heal himself. He talks about the physical, emotional and financial aspects of his journey as well as the goodness of the human spirit and how that helped him.
His presentation has been described as "powerful, very inspirational and motivational" but articulated in an "entertaining, down to earth" style, with a touch of humour.
