Maeve O'Meara's whole life revolves around food "savouring it, talking about it, writing about it, cooking it, filming it and exploring its many amazing incarnations amongst the cuisines of the world. Maeve is an award-winning food and cooking author, journalist, broadcaster, television producer and presenter who has spent many years travelling the world discovering food.
She is creator and presenter of the acclaimed series "Food Safari" on SBS Television, described by The Australian newspaper as "a landmark for Australian food television"?. With high ratings and exceptional viewer feedback on the 35 episode series and accompanying website, Maeve's production company Kismet Productions is now in production with a 10 part series on Italian food in Australia.
Food Safari 1 and 2 are now showing around the world, with Food Safari 3 to follow this year. DVDs of the series have made the bestseller lists and a hardcover book featuring many of the Food Safari recipes is due for release later in 2009.
Maeve is also the creator, co -presenter and producer of the highly awarded "Food Lover's Guide To Australia" on SBS TV, a series that is still on air and which ran to five series. She spent 5 years as Food Presenter on Channel Seven's Better Homes and Gardens and won two major international food awards for her work on the show.
Maeve is a prolific writer on the subject of food, co-authoring 11 books, including the cookbook "Lamingtons and Lemongrass"? and the best-selling SBS Eating Guides To Sydney?. Maeve is a former Food Editor of Family Circle and New Woman magazines and has spent more than 10 years on ABC radio discussing food including many years on the Relish? program. She also spent many years writing for the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Living section and other food publications.
Maeve currently writes regularly for the Weekend Australian about food and is a regular columnist for Selector magazine, providing insights into cuisines and easy recipes. She is a regular speaker and MC at many events and is ambassador for the Sydney charity OzHarvest which collects unused food from restaurants, cafes and caterers and distributes it free of charge to organizations that feed needy men women and children.
An extension of her passion has been her highly successful food tourism business, Gourmet Safaris which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary of operation. In 2007 Gourmet Safaris was voted Best Tour Operator in the Australian newspaper's prestigious Tourism and Travel awards, beating much larger competitors.
Gourmet Safaris takes groups on exotic food tours throughout Sydney, regional Australia and overseas. Every week scores of people explore food in Sydney with the company venturing into cuisines and areas they would never have discovered themselves; in Australia trips run to Kangaroo Island and Margaret River, and overseas to Vietnam and the Greek Islands. A huge success has been Maevea's newest business idea Gorgeous Safaris single perfect weeks for women only focusing on good food, retail therapy and spa treatments which currently runs in Vietnam, with plans for other destinations coming soon.
