Dr Peter van Onselen is professor of politics and foundation chair of journalism at the University of Western Australia. He is also the Contributing Editor at The Australian newspaper and Sky News, where he hosts the weekly political talk show The Contrarians. He writes a weekly column for the Weekend Australian and the Sunday Times. Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours, a Master of Commerce and a Master of Policy Studies as well as a PhD in political science.

A former Associate Professor and discipline chair in government and member of the faculty academic board at ECU, Peter is currently on the board of Teach for Australia and is an Ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation. Previously Peter wrote a weekly columnist for the Bulletin magazine and presented cover stories on politics for Channel Nine's flagship current affairs program Sunday.

Peter is the author or editor of six books, including four best sellers. His biography on John Howard was ranked by the Wall Street Journal as the best biography of 2007. Peter has won Walkley and Logie awards for his broadcast journalism and a News Award for his feature and opinion writing.
