Powerful, thought-provoking and passionate, Helen Fitzroy OAM’s personal journey of a workplace fatality inspires workers from all industries to take safety personally.
After losing her husband in a mining accident in WA in 1991, Helen was left with three young children under the age of seven, she has devoted her time to advocating for worker safety. She established the not-for-profit organisation Miners Promise, which supports workers and their families within the resources sector nationally, following a major crisis. In recognition of her efforts she received the WA Local Hero Award in 2012.
She travels extensively, both nationally and abroad, speaking across all levels of organisations; from leadership and management conferences, to remote sites addressing the workforce, on the ‘ripple effect’ of a workplace fatality.
In 2023, Helen received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for services to the mining industry.
