Concentration, patience, tenacity and conviction!

Bob Simpson, a man of strong convictions, and an all time cricketing great.

A dependable right-handed opening batsman, he was also a googly bowler and one of the finest slip fielders in cricket history. Interestingly, when he became captain of Australia in 1964, he had never scored a Test match century. Finally, in the 4th Test of their second tour of England that year, he and opening batting partner, Bill Lawry, scored 201 for the first wicket. Simpson went on to score a brilliant 311, the highest score ever by an Aussie Test captain and the longest innings played against England.

Bob Simpson became one of Australia's favourite sons captaining Australia for five years. The ability and respect for Simpson was shown when at the age of 41 Bob was asked to make a comeback and captain Australia even though he had been out of the spotlight for 10 years.

Despite this absence Bob was the star and led Australia to an exciting series win over the Indians. In 1986 Simpson's help was once again requested - he accepted the challenge of coaching the Australian Cricket Team to enormous success.
