Lee Constable is a factual presenter, author and edu-tainer specialising in science, sustainability and society. Lee is best known for hosting Australian science and tech TV show, Scope (Network 10) and Explainer Hacks (ABC Education). She has also featured on ABC News Breakfast, War on Waste and regularly hosts webinars for clients such as QUT and ANSTO. Lee's children's sustainability science books are superhero adventures through topics that bring the reading along for the journey: How to Save the Whole Stinkin' Planet (2019) focuses on waste, while How to Save the Whole Blinkin' Planet (2024) tackles to the topic of energy. She is also the founder of Co-Lab: Science Meets Street Art where scientist-street artist collaborations and conversations result in massive murals and public conversations about tricky topics.
Lee is a farm kid in the city, having grown up on her family's sheep farm in rural NSW during the millennium drought. This origin story compelled Lee to study environmental science and plant science but, dissatisfied with the idea of choosing between science, humanities and the stage, Lee enrolled in a Science/Arts double degree with arts majors in both sociology and drama. After completing an honours in Biology, Lee discovered one epic intersect in this multidisciplinary mixed bag of passions: science communication. In 2015 Lee toured remote and regional Australia performing live fire and flight science shows in the Questacon Science Circus while completing a Masters in science communication.
Some of Lee's life adventure highlights include: Guiding after-dark spotlight tours of the Australian National Botanic Gardens as an Education Ranger; Showing kids and community groups around the landfill and recycling sorting facility while working in waste communications; A 3-week Antarctic voyage on a ship full of women in STEMM from around the world; and, commentating the RoboWars Australia championships in front of a raucous crowd.
Lee currently works as an MC and professional factual presenter on stages and screens of all sizes. She is also completing a PhD in environmental communication and enjoys working with organisations across sectors to help them create entertaining and accurate content on complex topics for millennials and gen Z. Her hobbies include scuba diving, cosplaying as Captain Planet, talking climate and science on Twitch, and dabbling in comedy to laugh about the big stinkin problems that might otherwise make her cry! You can find Lee on social media as @Constababble, constantly babbling about STEM, society, sustainability and more!
