Former CEO of Lloyd’s of London, workplace equality advocate and British businesswoman, Dame Inga Beale is a name that became instantly recognisable within the global insurance and reinsurance market. A female figure that took her industry by
storm, she now works as a speaker to spread business motivation, share advice on business transformation and offer tips regarding inclusion.
After studying economics and accounting at Newbury College, Inga joined Prudential in London in 1982. She qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute in
1987 and is a Chartered Insurer. Entering an industry that was dominated by men, Inga faced adversity first hand due to the inequality between genders and diversity issues of the time period.
In the 90’s she moved to work as an underwriter for GE’s insurance division before making her way up to the management team in 2001 working in USA, France and Germany. By 2008 Inga was a management board member of the Zurich Insurance
Group in Switzerland, after previously reviving Swiss reinsurer Converium.
In 2013, it was announced that Inga would become the first female CEO of Lloyd's of London, having led prominent Lloyd’s syndicate Canopius for a couple of years. With this global insurance market’s history running for over 328 years, Inga became a
revolutionary milestone within its modernisation journey.
During her 5 year tenure, she took on many of the traditions that had held the organisation back. She introduced technology to the market, opened up in new and emerging economies around the world, and, understanding the vital importance of inclusion in the workplace, she challenged the traditional “boys club” culture to make it a much more inclusive environment for all.
A passionate and driven figure within the world of business and economics, she was awarded a Damehood in the 2017 New Year Honours for her services to the UK economy and for her work supporting women and the LGBTQ+ community.
She now has a portfolio of global non-executive director and advisory roles and her philanthropic interests include being an Ambassador of Stonewall UK.
