Melissa Coade is news editor for The Mandarin, based in the Canberra parliamentary press gallery.
With more than 15 years in media, Melissa has worked in newsrooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. She regularly covers state and federal budgets, royal commissions and all matters concerning public service.
Melissa was previously a legal affairs reporter for the Law Society of New South Wales and Lawyers Weekly, and went on to support justice organisations including the Children's Court of Victoria and Victorian Bar Association.
Her reporting interests include democracy, politics, public administration, public sector integrity, anti-corruption, civics education, human rights and social justice.
Melissa is an admitted solicitor, holds law and journalism degrees from the University of Wollongong, and is a proud product of public education.
As a graduate lawyer, she interned with the prosecution team for the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT) and UN Women in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She undertook her Practical Legal Training with Legal Aid NSW.
Melissa's parents are Australian and Cambodian. Her mother's family came to Australia from Thailand as refugees in the mid 80s, fleeing Cambodia's devastating Pol Pot regime as displaced people.
