Tanya Hosch AM, awarded a Member of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 2026 for her significant service to social policy and advocacy for diversity and inclusion, is a nationally respected leader and advocate.
She brings a long and distinguished history in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy, social inclusion, governance and public advocacy.
Tanya most recently served as the Executive General Manager of Inclusion and Social Policy at the Australian Football League (AFL), where she was the first Indigenous person and only the second woman appointed to the AFL's Executive ranks. Under Tanya's leadership, the AFL made significant strides, including offering a formal apology to Adam Goodes and recognising gender diversity within the organisation, including the implementation of a diversity clause in the broadcasting agreement. Tanya's work at the AFL focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs, gender equity, sexuality and gender diversity, and addressing racism and sexism.
Prior to her work in sport, Tanya was the Joint Campaign Director for the Recognise movement, which sought constitutional recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. She also played a central role as a member of the Referendum Council, which led to the historic Uluru Statement from the Heart in 2017.
Tanya was an active campaigner for a Yes vote in the 2023 Voice Referendum, further advancing her commitment to the recognition and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Currently, Tanya is the Co-Chair of the First Nations Advisory Group for the National Australia Bank, a Director of the Coaxial Foundation, Director of the National Library of Australia and a member of the Australian National University Council. She continues to serve in various advisory and governance roles across a range of sectors.
Recently, Tanya was proudly appointed to the board of the Goodes O'Loughlin Foundation (GO Foundation), an organisation dedicated to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth through education.
Additionally, Tanya is an advisor to the She Gives Campaign, which focuses on growing and recognising the philanthropic contributions of women in Australia.
A respected cultural leader, Tanya was named 2021 South Australian of the Year, listed sixth on the Australian Financial Review's Cultural Power List, and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Flinders University in 2022.
She was also a consultant on the acclaimed ABC series Total Control, in which she made a cameo appearance in Season Two - a personal career highlight.
