Barrie Barton is a thinker, writer, speaker, entrepreneur and place maker. He believes cities are habitats for humans, and that by caring about place, we make a positive impact on people’s lives.
In 2005, Barrie Barton co-founded Right Angle: an urban innovation company dedicated to understanding and improving life in cities. Right Angle provides strategic advice to all levels of government, not-for-profit organisations, publicly listed and private companies to maximise the economic, social, cultural and environmental value of their land through innovative development. Barrie calls Sydney home but is engaged in urban strategy projects across Australia and in London, Tokyo, Bangkok and Johannesburg. In 2019, Harper’s Bazaar Magazine acknowledged him in their Visionary Men issue for his impact on cities.
Alongside leading Right Angle, Barrie co-founded and is CEO of Sydney’s Golden Age Cinema, rated by The New York Times, Monocle Magazine and Time Out Magazine as one of the best cinemas in the world. In 2024, he launched Habitats & Humans, a deeply personal publication on urban philosophy that is #23 in the Top 100 Design Publications on Substack.
