Ian Watson began his career as an academic in Perth. He spent several years teaching and researching at Murdoch University there before taking up a position as a lecturer in Climatology and Meterology at Macquarie University in Sydney.

During his ten years at Macquarie, Ian taught Atmoshpheric Science while researching and publishing internationally on numerous aspects of how city environments alter the urban atmosphere.

Prior to joining ABC-TV's Science Unit, Ian was a science and environment reporter for the Seven Network, contributing to documentaries, news and current affairs programs, including 11 AM and Seven Nightly News. Ian has presented documentaries about Sydney's underground, the plight of the Murray River, tourist destinations and National Parks around Sydney. In 1998 he worked on two three part series for the Science Unit - The Face and Too Much Medicine. This year Ian was Series Producer for the first series of the new science panel show called FAQ, and has just completed an international co-production on the amazing world of savants.
