Lynne Malcolm is the host of the popular weekly ABC radio program and highly downloaded podcast - All in the Mind, a role she has held for the past 8 years as part of the ABC's Science and Health Unit.
All in the Mind is a weekly half hour program about the mind, brain and behaviour and the fascinating interactions between them. From dreaming to depression, memory to imagination, psychotherapy to psychopathy, emotion to obsession it explores the human condition through the mind's eye and brings together a diverse range of ideas and human experiences through the voices of great thinkers and powerful personal stories.
Lynne has a Bachelor degree from Sydney University, majoring in Psychology with Education, Anthropology, Maths, Chemistry and Fine Arts, from Sydney University. She has a Graduate Diploma in Communications and Journalism from the University of Technology.
Lynne was Executive Producer of the ABC Radio National Science Unit for 15 years until 2016. She was the managing editor of Radio National programs including the Science Show, The Health Report, Ockham's Razor and Off Track. During this period she also produced a wide range of science and health programs and documentaries
She has travelled extensively throughout Australia, and Asia including Nepal, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China and Japan to produce science and environment features and series, in co-productions between the ABC and the BBC.
Lynne has received many awards for her work in radio, including Bronze & Gold Medals in the New York Radio Festivals International Awards, the Michael Daley Award for Journalism in Science, and finalist status in the Eureka Awards. She won two Mental Health Services media achievement awards for All in the Mind, one in 2007 for her series on schizophrenia, and one in 2013 for two programs on youth mental health. In 2014 she was awarded The Mental Health Matters media award for her contribution to mental health awareness on All in the Mind. She was awarded the 2017 Mental Health Services in Australia and New Zealand Media Award in the category of Sound/Vision Journalism for a series of three programs from All in the Mind, titled 'Understanding and De-stigmatising Mental Illness', and All in the Mind was a finalist in the science and medicine category of the 2019 Australian Podcast Awards.
She has been on the judging panel of the Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Science Journalism each year since 2013.
Over the past 6 years Lynne has been on the judging panel for the Mental Health Services media awards and the Mental Health Association of NSW Mental Health Matters award.
Lynne has flair and skill as an MC and panel moderator and her specific interests lie in a broad range of issues including human behaviour, societal issues, mental and physical health and wellbeing, workplace culture, education, psychology, and neuroscience.
She has MC'd and moderated panels for a range of organisations including the Happiness and its Causes Conference, The NSW Mental health Commission, The World Science Festival, The Australian Museum, Sane Australia, The Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences and the national Gallery of Victoria.
Lynne Malcolm is passionate about people and their personal experience and is fascinated by the mind, and human behaviour and the intriguing interactions between them.
