Under the dynamic Musical Direction of Dynes Austin, the dazzling repertoire of the more-than-35-voices of Cafe of the Gate of Salvation, includes traditional African American spirituals, contemporary gospel and some original songs, penned by choir members.

The choir's sound is an exhilarating mix. Rock, pop, funk, R&B and calypso rhythms have also found their way into the gospel genre. It shoots from the heart its message of love, joy and hope. When the choir takes to the stage, ears ring, hearts sing and spirits soar!

The choir has released three CDs to date and has performed at many festivals and high-profile events, along with organising their own concerts in a variety of venues from pubs to church halls. They have toured extensively, including tours to Melbourne, Queensland, Adelaide and the USA. Their most recent was a successful tour of New Zealand in 2007. They also do much work for charity.

Cafe of the Gate of Salvation was founded in 1986, under the direction of composer, singer and arranger Tony Backhouse.
