Maxine McKew is an Hon Fellow of the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. Her most recent book “Class Act” was published in 2014 and looks at success and challenge in Australian education. Class Act considers six school case studies and the way that effective leaders navigate cultural change and lift student performance.

Maxine’s background is in journalism and politics. For many years she was a familiar face to ABC TV viewers and was anchor of programmes such as Lateline and the 7.30 Report. When she made the switch to politics she wrote herself into the Australian history books by defeating John Howard in the Sydney seat of Bennelong. She served in government from 2007-2010 as parliamentary secretary for early childhood, and later for infrastructure and local government.

Maxine also serves as a director of three boards, the State Library of Victoria, Per Capita and the John Cain Foundation.
