Hamish McRae is one of Europe's leading futurists on global business, economics and society. A London based economic journalist, Hamish is the author of the acclaimed work on the future 'The World in 2020: Power, Culture and Prosperity' (HarperCollins 1994, Harvard Business School Press 1995) which has been translated into more than a dozen languages. Since the publication of 'The World in 2020', Hamish McRae has been in demand worldwide as a speaker on 'what is happening to the world economy'. His latest book, 'What Works - Success in Stressful Times' was published by HarperPress in 2010. Hamish is currently associate editor of The Independent newspaper in London and chief economic commentator for The Independent and The Independent on Sunday.

As an economic journalist, he was editor of "Euromoney" and financial editor of "The Guardian" before moving to "The Independent". His recent awards include: Best Communicator in the 2007 Business Journalist of the Year Awards; Business and Finance Journalist of the Year in the 2006 British Press Awards; and the David Watt Prize for political and economic journalism in 2005. He has a masters degree in economics and political science from Trinity College, Dublin.

Hamish's current areas of work include the shift of power to the economies of Asia and the impact of the new technologies on the world economy. Hamish shows audiences not only where we will be in the next twenty-five years, but how we will get there. He offers a bold vision of a world in which the best predictor of economic success will not be based upon technological prowess but rather a nation's creativity and social responsibility. The emergence of culture and values as a source of competitive edge for industrialised nations signals a profound shift in world order. Hamish demonstrates how changes in demography, the environment, government, technology and natural resources, will contribute to this new competitive landscape.
