In June 1987, David having recently emigrated from South Africa, founded Com Tech Communications as a specialist supplier of networking and communications products. Fourteen years later, Com Tech was sold to Dimension Data at an enterprise value of $1bil. At the time of sale, Com Tech employed over 1400 people, had offices Australia wide and had achieved revenues of $700mil � having been profitable since inception and never using external debt. David prides himself on regularly being voted as one of the leading companies to work for in Australia.
Since then, David has been an early-stage investor and mentor for a number of start-ups many of which have been successfully exited. These include ZipMoney, CalReply (acquired by ROKT), LatAm Autos, RangeMe, Pocketbook (acquired by ZipMoney), BizCover, Centric Wealth (acquired by Findex), Zeetings (acquired by Canva) MacromatiX (acquired by TPG Growth), Earnd (acquired by Greensill), Instaclustr, Go1 and Holly Connects (acquired by West Interactive). David serves as an investor and a Board member for some exciting Australian start-ups, including cyber security company Kasada, Advanced Navigation, a leader in positioning solutions from the sea bed to a satellite, Optty an innovative BNPL aggregation solution and Simpology, a fintech company providing disruptive home-loan origination software.
David is co-founder of Our Innovation Fund (OIF VC), an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in exciting Australian start-ups. Today OIF has over $500mil of Funds Under Management (FUM).
David has recently authored and published a book � �The Dumbest Guy at the Table � how I built Australia�s First Unicorn� with 100% of proceeds being donated to The Black Dog Institute. He also recently chaired the NSW Gov Small Business Innovation Program (SBIR) for allocating State Gov Grants to exciting NSW technology companies.
