Jo Rush was a guest reporter on Getaway presenting stories throughout 2003. Prior to Getaway, Jo was the Presenter for Next Wave, a science television program produced by Southern Star for National Geographic Television.
With an impressive academic background, Jo is poised to become a well-known media identity not only presenting, but also assisting research and writing for the series.

She was born in Gunnedah in rural NSW in 1974 and since childhood she wanted to be either a veterinarian or a marine biologist. Rush began a science degree at the University of Sydney in 1992 and quickly made the decision to continue with marine science after considering the lifestyle potential – like being paid to go scuba diving in exotic locations. After finishing her honours degree Rush was offered a PhD project, working with the NSW Environment Protection Authority and the University of Sydney.

Rush has spent time in Europe, Asia, the Americas, the Pacific and South America. Travelling to and staying on location to remote areas including the Amazon Jungle, Guyana, Ecuador, Burma, Paua New Guinea, Indonesia, Thailand and Patagonia.

As well as her appearances on Getaway, Jo is an Associate Lecturer, School of Biological Sciences, University of Sydney.

Jo is a registered scientific diver with over 1,000 hours of logged dives. She has an ability to communicate scientific concepts in an easy to understand format to managers, scientists, students and the general public both in person or via documentary format.

Jo also has the ability and willingness to cope with working in a wide range of environments and conditions, including third world countries and politically sensitive areas.
