Marcia Hines has been one of Australia's brightest stars for more than thirty years. Marcia has been crowned Queen of Pop on three occasions, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and was most recently awarded an Order of Australia. Marcia is also a judge on the extremely successful, long running television program, Australian Idol.
Marcia Hines has lived a remarkable life, with over 3 decades of stage hits, #1 singles, #1 albums, sell-out concerts, which have cemented Marcia as a true diva. As a performer Marcia has had an amazing influence on Australia's music industry, a musical journey that began in the mid 70s and spawned a run of hit singles and albums and awards.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she began singing as a child in her local church choir and by her teens was performing with groups in her local area. At the age of 17, she was successful in securing a role in the Australian stage production of Hair and then played Mary Magdalene in the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Soon after Marcia signed on as singer with the jazz-orchestra the Daly-Wilson Big Band as its front line vocalist and four record breaking club tours put Marcia into a position of enormous respect and recognition as the unquestionable "First Lady Of Song". During this time Marcia toured Australia, the USA, where they performed at a White House recital as well as supporting B.B. King and Wilson Pickett in Las Vegas. The band also undertook a ground-breaking month-long tour of the USSR. A solo deal followed in July 1974 and album sales of over half a million saw her crowned Australia's Queen of Pop from 1976-1978.
Over the years, Marcia was a constant on the music and theatre scene, only taking time out to raise her daughter Deni, now a successful music artist in her own right. In 2006 her album 'Discotheque' entered the ARIA charts at #6 & certified gold. In 2007 Marcia was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, released a new album 'Marcia Hines - Life', toured nationally with Lionel Richie & most recently has written a book 'Life - Things To Get You By'.
